I couldn't find 5 % , so bought 7 %. How can I calculate how many drops to take?

Mickey, thanks so much for this. Lugol's really changed my life and cleared up so many problems so far. As a result of reading your info I have decided to up my dose: at present I am taking 2 drops of 12.5% Lugol's so that is only about 13mg (I think).

For everyone out there, there is a very easy way to tell if you are iodine deficient (which nearly everyone is to some extent). Put one drop on the back of your hand. The stain should stay there for about 3-4 days. The first time I tried this the stain TOTALLY disappeared after 90 mins!!!!

Bagalamukhi, I have never worked with anything but "Lugol's Solution" and Ioderal. Lugol's Solution is 5% Iodine to 10% Potassium Iodide in 85% distilled water. I have no idea how one would work with a 7% solution but if I were you, I would carefully look at the ingredients and the proportion. Make sure there is nothing else in there! Just guessing, your 7% solution should be about 7% Iodine to about 12% Potassium Iodide, I would think, but I am no chemist---not even close to being one. If it looks like the correct ingredients and proportion, and it doesn't say on your bottle what the strength is per drop, call the company that makes it and ask them. I also noticed by the Amazon reviews, that a couple of people had trouble with the drops coming from the bottle in an unequal amount---some drops were big and some were small. Because of this, you might want to transfer it to a glass bottle with a glass eye dropper. Be very careful not to spill it or it WILL STAIN EVERYTHING.

Here's a place you can get the real Lugol's Solution but it is at a scalping price. We paid $7 per 100ml bottle just before it became illegal however a 100ml bottle will last you and your spouse about a year so that still works out to be very cheap for something so vital to our health;

Other ideas to obtain it would be from fish stores, get a prescription for it or make a trip to Mexico. Making it is beyond my talent but I did put the recipe out there for those that are talented that way. I plan on hiring a chemist to make a couple of gallons for me when I run out.
