Mixing 50% Acid Solution & mixing with MMS Solution, having problem! was created by Stre
I am trying to make the CDS solution ... and failing. I make the 50% citric acid solution, ( 1/2 ounce ascorbic acid powder and 1/2 ounce distilled water), total one ounce. I try to mix this with one ounce of MMS (sodium chlorite solution, 22.4%). There is an instant reaction, 'explosion', off gassing, turns dark 'brown' color to pale yellow in 2 to 3 seconds, no more off gassing. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I AM DOING WRONG. I can not find You Tube videos explaining in detail the making of the 50% acid solution and the mixing with the MMS solution. I have tried four times now and wasting more than four ounces of MMS. I have no problem with making the 10% acid solution and the 5 to 1 mix with MMS. I need to solve this mixing problem. Does anyone have specific instructions and or video links?

Stree, Ascorbic acid is one of 2 acids that cannot be used - it stops MMS in it's tracks. You need citric acid, which is another animal all together. Are you in the US? I ordered my citric acid from Mountain Rose Herbs - but I'm sure there are other vendors.

Thank You for your input Pam. Yes I did have the wrong acid. Using Citric Acid. No problem with the mixing.
However, after less than 10 minutes the color of the solution on the cold side is equal to the color on the hot side, (making the CDS) and on the end of the tube that bubbles into the solution 'red ice clumps' are forming. What is this 'red ice' that forms and is resting at the bottom of the class?

Others will jump in, I'm sure. It's normal for the color to change to the same yellow - and if the temperature is right, you'll see a significant lightening in 20 minutes or so - just keep it up for the 2 hours.
I've had the "red clumps" too, and they've stayed in the bottom of the receiving bottle when I've poured the CDS into their individual bottles. (Frozen to the bottom, LOL) My "making" bottles are clear glass, so it's not pulling some sort of coloring from the glass. I personally think (although I'm not a chemist, so I can't guarantee) that when the process is starting and the gas is flowing really good from the small bottle to the larger one, that sometimes it pulls some of the compounds from the sodium chlorite and the citric acid over into the receiving jar. Since (1) they're pretty much stayed in the bottle when I've poured the other liquid out and (2) I notice no problem at all from them, and (3) - everything being used is what was in the original MMS, I have not worried.

the red clumps are from the tubing being melted. L had tried a softer tubing, since that is what l had, and since the tube turned almost red in color halfway through, it was easy to guess where the "red clumps" came from since the tube melted. l bought the 1/4" tubing used for installing filters on refridgerators, so l don't expect any more melted tubing. lol.

Actually, I had the exact opposite experience. My red didn't show up early on when I did the andreas' protocol and WERE in my last 2 bataches of the Jim protocol, which were done with refrigerator ice-maker tubing - so I'm pretty sure it's NOT melted tubing. It's something else - and those I've spoken with think it's more a case of the gas moving so fast from the "mix" bottle to the "receiving bottle" that it pulls along some part of the original MMS/CA mix.
Let us know what happens on your next batch, I'll be curious.
OK, guys, I'm not a chemist, never took it in high school even - those two bottles have a "real name" - what are they?
