Diluting sodium chlorite, first time was created by jpsala
Hi, first of all, glad to meet you all :)
I'm Juan, from Argentina, so, sorry for me English.
Tomorrow I'll buy a Kg of Sodium clorite, it's at 80% of purity, was looking for ways to dilute it at 28% and came to this formula:
Weight needed in gr. of clorite at 80%=Final volume of clorite*target percent(28)/100
so, to make 100ml of clorite at 28% it seems that I need (100*28)/100=28gr. of clorite at 80%.
Can you please confirm this before I try :)
And if you have some advice on howto make it I'm more than glad to hear.
Next step is to make the cds.
Thanks a lot.
Juan

Edit: the source of the formula is this page:
www.racehorseherbal.com/Infections/NaClO2/naclo2.html

but after that I read in other page a diferent result:
Sodium Chlorite Distilled Water (by weight) (by volume)
42.7 grams 109.8 grams 152.5 grams 125 ml

at: keavyscorner.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=8&chapter=10

So I'm more confussed now :(

Go with Steve's advice (he's a moderator on the forum here) and runs keavys corner

keavyscorner.com/index.php?main_page=pag...;id=8&chapter=10

The logic is that you want 28% of the total solution not 28% of water you're mixing into.

thanks for your answer, I don't have a scale and come across this from Jim Humble, is this ok too?:

To Prepare One Small Four Ounce Bottle of 28% MMS Solution (Recommended):

Step 1: In a small glass (non-metallic) bowl or bottle place 4 level tablespoons of sodium chlorite powder.

Step 2: Add 3 ounces of distilled warm water (max temperature - 150 degrees Farenheit).

Step 3: Stir with a non-metalic spoon and cover for darkness. Let the solution sit for 3 hours. Expect some some settlings to fall to the bottom.

Step 4: Pour slowly into a dark 4 or 6 ounce bottle for storage and future use. Leave settlings in the bowl - discard them.

Hello Juan. Welcome! 28 gm sodium chlorite : 72 gm water =100gm TOTAL

72/28 = 2.57 1 part sodium chlorite : 2.57 parts water

42.7 ; (42.7 * 2.57) 109.8 = 152.5 TOTAL

All of these mixes give you 28% = MMS1
Always by weight.
Your English is fine!
Always feel free to ask questions. Someone will always answer!

Yes, use Jim's method too! Use kitchen measuring spoons.

Can you confirm if my post about Humble's way is ok to? because I have no scale :(
Looking at your formula using parts i see that it can work too without an scale, it seems, does it?

Hello Juan.
Yes, use Jim's method too! Use kitchen measuring spoons.

Parts only by weight.

Paul, I don't get what "Parts only by weight. " means, sorry, can you explain, what do you mean by using kitchen spoons? I'm a little insecure because it's my first time and want to do it well.
Remember that I don't have a scale :)

Hi Juan. The ratio of 1: 2.57 is only for measures by weight. If you don't have a scale, what units do you use for measuring volume? Litres? mL?

Do you have a measuring spoon marked 15 mL on the handle?

15 mL of dry 80% sodium chlorite weighs 16.11gm

16.11 x 2.57 = 41.4 gm or ml of water

15 mL of dry 80% sodium chlorite + 42 ml water = 28% mms

Ok, you are right, it seems imposible to calculate 2.57 spoons :-) .
I'll go for Humble's method this first time and get a scale for the next, thanks a lot for your help. I'll come back with the results
