Pure HCL from Muriatic Acid was created by CLO2
How to make clean Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) from Muriatic Acid found at hardware stores, lumber yards, ceramic tile supply stores, etc., for use in making MMS1, 3000 ppm CDS and CDH.

Thanks for developing a methodology - I tried the you-tube method a couple of years ago - but couldn't come up with a strength test for the resulting HCL - so gave up. Have you developed a disposal methodology for the ~ 50 ml Muriatic Acid (mother solution) left? Or if we could determine the MA strength, we could use it for producing CDS.

Martin, at this point I have not been saving the reactor solution because muriatic acid is so inexpensive.

Yes, it could be used to make CDS. One would have to test the CLO2 ppm and adjust dosing if not 3000 ppm.

Are you diluting and dumping or neutralizing (baking soda?) and dumping. I'm on a septic tank.

Septic system here also. No, I dilute with water and pour onto gravel/dirt driveway. Don't see any problems except some weeds might die. And, there is not much of the stuff. No worse than someone cleaning concrete with full strength muriatic acid and washing it off with water.

Hello CLO2:
If I use a glass container containing 500ml of DW placed inside a 2lit glass jar containing 500ml of muriatic acid, do you think i would get a similar concentration ie ~5.3%
thanks

Hi Gabyher.

What you describe may get ~5% clean HCL.

I have a test that has been running for a long time that I need to stop and see what I got.

Testing for HCL % is difficult. For now its just a guess.

As long as I get clean HCL close to 5% I'm happy. If it's 4.8% it's fine , 5.3% is also fine.
Thanks CLO2

I've been using CLO2's methodology since it was posted. I actually have no idea what % it is - but it activates MMS as if it's correct - so I use it. So I would suggest that you just try your methodology and try it. (this does require some experience with activating MMS). But if you're getting a amber colour ~ 30 seconds - you are good to go!!

Thanks CLO2 - I was using hardware store grade HCL before that (but I didn't die)

Getting lower % is always better than getting stronger dilution as HCL is strong acid.
