Hi - New and need advice was created by andycnx
Hi, I'm very new to this. Have just attempted to make my first batch of cds but I think I have got the concentrations wrong as when I mix the Hydrochloric acid and Sodium Chlorite together in the shot glass it turns to a light yellow colour and not the dark brown as in the Andreas Kalker video. I bought Hydrochloric acid at 35% strength and need to achieve 4% so have diluted it with distilled water using these ratios: 94.85ml acid to 735ml water. Have I done something wrong? Any advice greatly received. Thanks.

Your dilution calculation is correct.
I presume you are following my shot-glass and dual infusion methods of making CDS that Andreas Kalcker demonstrates?
5ml of MMS + 5ml of 4% HCL into the reactor container, twice, 8-12 hours apart?
If you dilute some of that 35% HCL to 10% HCL, you only need one infusion. The recipe is 12ml of MMS + 12ml of 10% HCL.
CDS water in both cases is 240ml.

Thanks for the reply CLO2. Yes, I am using 5 ml of Sodium Chlorite and 5 ml of HCL as described by Andreas Kalker in his video. You say to use MMS and HCL whereas I am using Sodium Chlorite and HCL, Is using MMS better? I'm not sure where I can purchase this as I live in SE Asia. I will try the 10% dilution. Thanks again.

One definition of MMS is 22.4% sodium chlorite solution as per Jim Humble. Use that to make CDS!
