Hi,

Here's a tip I'd like to share, which has worked for me for the past couple of months.
I use 6 drops of Sodium Chlorite on every half gallon of milk. Put in the drops, shake the hell out of the container, and put it in the fridge.
Deterioration is way slower, and milk stays fresh until completely used!
Even after 20 days, the milk is still good.
Regular milk, even in the fridge, won't last 10 days!

Whoa! That would be cool!

I buy organic milk because I don't use much and it's good for a couple of months. It's a lot more expensive but WAY cheaper than using some and having to throw out the rest a week later. I'm only about half way through a half gallon of organic milk that doesn't expire until January.

thanks karl. i will definately be useing this trick when my supply has to last for extended periods.

i wonder if the chlorine dioxide neutralises some bacteria, that we would otherwise consider beneficial? along those lines, i will only treat that part of the milk supply that has to last the longest. ... kev

Just Sodium Chlorite drops. NO activation acid!
Coffee tastes great after 15 days, just like when I bought the milk :D

Don't put in Chlorine Dioxide!, because then the milk will taste like hell! :)
The Sodium Chlorite alone will kill the bacteria in the milk (several types: lactococcus lactis, lactobacillus bulgaricus, etc. search google )
Just the same as it's used to make regular tap water potable.
That's why the milk will last longer, because it's the bacteria that spoils the milk.

We buy raw milk at a local farm. It doesn't go bad, it goes good. It changes into sour milk then into yogurt. Those bacteria are not harmful but are beneficial. Now, with ordinary supermarket milk, I would use the MMS, if I had to buy it, just to counteract all the stuff that's in there. Use www.localharvest.org to find a farm nearby.

That is correct!, because with the Sodium Chlorite added, the raw milk will probably take weeks to go sour! :)

Actually, you don't want to kill any of the bacteria in raw milk. Regular store milk, even organic, that has been pasteurized and homogenized, just doesn't work for me, but i can drink the raw milk. Whatever there is in raw milk that's not in the H&P milk is my friend <G>.
