After testing a sample of my CDS with half a test strip, i stupidly poured that back into my CDS batch meaning only to dilute the batch, but realize the chemicals on the strip might have contaminated it!!!!!!

I also noticed the strips are not reliable because they sometimes turn brown which is not even on the yellow to turquoise spectrum. I also have chlorine test strips which i ordered in error and they seem to work just as well. I don't know. I am thinking to go get some gatorade and forget the strips!

Hi Penny
The correct test strip is this for Chlorine Dioxide Solution (CDS):

If you are using chlorine test strips, you are using the wrong strips, Penny. You need the chlorine dioxide. First we start there.

I have always done my testing in a little shot glass, which goes immediately into the sink. Which CDS making protocol were you doing? We've got about 4 or 5 running now <G>.

i checked the safety statistics of the strips and decided that no, i didn't contaminate my batch.

I am not having a good result with the strips anyway because they seem to be turning colors they aren't supposed to. that is why I am going to try the gatorade method.

I'm already turning into a minister. I made a batch for two people already.

Hi Pam, I am doing the youtube version with Jim. i do have the correct CD strips but sometimes i get a bright yellow, or reddish brown color! they are supposed to be in the green/blue range.

do you recommend another method? if so, where can i see it. I am quite happily making my batches in baby bottles. they are kind of sweet. i have to watch it the whole time because it goes so fast and when the bubbles stop the baby bottle sucks it back and then i lose a quarter of it.

Please post the name of the test strips.... I can't see from here <G>

I've never had a problem with CDS being too dark (even when I was making 12500ppm/L) - I once had a problem with my MMS turning brown when i made it - which was a function of having impurities in the mix- i.e., I tamped down the citric acid, and when making MMS,I used the same spoon to stir, and although I could not see citric acid crystals on it, it HAD citric acid crystals on it, so it started to activate as it was being made.
