Hello,

I am having trouble with making the CDS and have a couple of questions.

When I attempted to make CDS this afternoon the CDS gas appeared to travel part-way through the polyethylene tubing, and that was as far as it got. I even tried to increase the temperature of the water and that did not help. In the end, the MMS in the baby bottle turned a bright yellow, much like CDS. It never went clear, not even almost clear. The baby bottle was in the hot, almost boiling water for about two hours.

I used distilled water for the large glass bottle as well as for the citric acid that I mixed. The only thing that I did differently from Jim Humble's video was the tubing was the clear polyethylene and not the white that he used. The video did say that white silicon tubing would work, but it did not say that clear polyethylene tubes would not work. Before I try this again, I would like to see if anyone knows about or has had any experience with the different tubes.

Or, if anyone has any idea why it didn't work for me, please let me know what you think.

Second question, is the bright yellow MMS I was left with still good for anything? There's obviously some MMS left there, but not sure how I could use it. It would be a shame to have to throw it out, but if it is useless, I of course will.

Thanks,

Kay

Kay, I had the same problem on one of my batches, and basically I was told that there was a leak... In thinking back over it, the tubing twisted the baby bottle nipple a bit, and it's entirely possible I did have a leak. Once I rescrewed the top down tightly and then set the bottles so there was no twist, it worked fine.

Hello Kay,

I like to take the leftovers and dilute it in a spray bottle for cleaning the house. There's a handy concentration chart, I think its called Common Uses and PPM General Reference Guide.

welcome to the forum!

Hi Pam and Dish,

Thanks for your thoughts. I will try making the CDS again tomorrow and pay attention to possible leaks.

Cleaner idea is great!

I have been looking for baby bottle nipples online and read that they now all have "micro air vents" in the nipple for keeping air bubbles out of baby's tummy. I was thinking I would have to paint glue or something all over it to keep the CD gas from leaking.

If you can see where the air vents are, you could use a layer of silicone glue on them. I don't think I've seen the "microvents" here in the US - but haven't been looking, will admit.

I use my baby bottles in the refrigerator to keep my vegetables fresh. I replace them when the liquid turns clear

Sandy, you can watch the color to sorta see where you are, in terms of strength. I had my "leftover" CDS in a baby bottle, and it seemed to lose it's strength faster than the stuff in the dark amber bottles and screw down tops - not sure why - but what I've found is that as I make the CDS, I'm more and more sensitive to the "color" of it - which helps me determine a need to test for dosage.
