How does an author delete his/her post?

How can I, the author of a post delete the post from the forum?
Instructions most appreciated.

Hi John, if you go to a post you authored, I believe there is an "edit" and "delete" button down on the bottom of the box to the middle and right. If not, then send me a private message (top right hit "private messages" link) about what you want done and I'll take care of it for you.

Hi guys, I believe that users are not able to delete posts, as I think this would eliminate any thread that follows a post, and we don't want other users threads to be lost. You can edit posts, i.e. delete anything you wrote, I know that.
