Dilution:
Never add water to acid.
Always add acid to water!

i didn't know that. why add acid to water and not water to acid?

diluting acid with water is exothermic (releases heat). if the acid is strong enough, the water will boil instantly splattering you with acid. :>( adding acid to water, the heat is dissipated by the water. diluting 5% to 4% doesn't matter, but for safety's sake, train yourself to always add the acid to the water.
