Skin burn from MMS without Citric Acid - remedy? was created by Terry
Following Bishop's advice for spider bites in his book, I applied plain unactivated MMS to several bites on my arm yesterday. I must have applied too many times because now I am experiencing a burn on the skin. He said not to worry to rinse it off so I didn't.
Anyone have a good remedy for how to treat the burn? I applied aloe vera last night and it did seem to cool things off but didn't have the opportunity to do that today at work, so it is burning. Feels like a sun burn sort of.
Help. and Thanks!

You could be still reacting from the spider bites Terry.
I have never had any adverse reaction or burns form putting MMS on my skin personally, but then we all may have different reactions.
I cannot fault the Aloe Vera as a soothing mechanism, and the area you are burning with should just be irrigated with fresh water after you have applied MMS and left it for a few minutes. That's why Jim recommends the spot test before doing large area applications on skin to test for allergic reactions.

I do think JH stated to not leave unactivated MMS on the skin longer than 5 minutes max. How long did you leave it on? It's highly alkaline.

Thanks Pam. I left it on all day and applied it several times. It's better today after using aloe on it a few times last night. The bites are better also.
I checked JH's book on insect bites and unless I read it incorrectly, he did say to apply unactived MMS to the bite with the finger or a que tip but to try not to get it on the skin surrounding the bite. No need to rinse it off.
The skin isn't damaged. Was just red and slightly burning, like a turpentine burn. Mild and remedied.
Thanks again.

Directly from his latest book - highlighting is mine
The question becomes, does the time restriction apply only to burns or to both insect bites and burns. Since it was under the heading "unactivated MMS," I took it to apply to both.
•Unactivated MMS
◊ For itchy insect bites such as from mosquitoes and
fleas use only one drop of unactivated MMS. Insect
bites are acidic in nature and since MMS is alkaline, it
can neutralize the acid, thus stopping the itch. Rub the
one drop in with the end of your finger or a Q-tip. Use
no more than 2 drops total.
◊ For skin burns including sunburn. Being alkaline, MMS
will cancel out the pain of a burn which comes from the
acidity of burned skin.
◊ Do not apply oil or greasy lotions, as by sealing the
burned area, they can worsen the injury.
Apply the unactivated MMS to the burn liberally and immediately
spread it with your fingers (but gently). Leave it there for no more
than 5 minutes and then rinse it off with clean water. The pain
will usually be gone in 3 or 4 minutes but if it is not, do a second
treatment. Do not leave it longer than 5 minutes as you will cause
much more damage. Use aloe vera ointment or aloe vera juice for
healing after treatment.

Thanks. I thought that I had the latest edition but perhaps not. Got it last Fall.
Thanks for clearing it up for everyone. Wouldn't want my post to misinform.
Thanks again Pam.
