Does anyone know how fast CDS evaporates if left out in an open bowl of water?

I'm trying to treat my dogs by adding CDS to their drinking water bowl, and I wonder how long the "potency" of the CDS remains in the water before it no longer is giving them a useful dose.

I think of the idea of the "half-life" decay process of radioactive elements as that relates to CDS.

So, if I put x amount of ppm of CDS in an open bowl of water, how long might it be before evaporation causes a 50% reduction in strength?

Hi,

The evaporation rate or rate of deterioration will be proportionate to the surface area exposed to air, the starting temperature of the CDS and the ambient temperature. Make sense?

Thank you, and I know that there are many variables which affect the evaporation rate, and that, without specifics, no exact scientific answer can be given. But, a generalization is all I'm looking for.

Might I still have, say, one-half of the original potency after 1 hour, if I start with water at 70 degF, CDS right out of the refrig, a 2 quart bowl of water with a top diameter of 10 inches?

Is is possible to "guestimate"?

One step better would be to get yourself some chlorine dioxide testing strips (LaMotte Insta test strips - I got mine at Amazon and Graingers) - and test for your local conditions. I use the 0-500, but if you're looking at testing at diluted in the drinking water, you might be able to get away wtih 0-10

It's all an experiment, Richard, based on our local conditions, as Steve says. We can get ball park - approximate - good enough - (as JH says, this is not rocket science <G>) but to get the detail for our specific conditions, local testing will give it to us.

Acids in Safety Bottles

Customer issue

Glass bottles have very long useful lives. As containers for all manner of chemicals, they remain a valuable inert material for everyday use in the laboratory. Yet however much care is taken, breakage does occur. It is something that simply has to reckoned with. Serious injury, contamination or consequential damage can be the result. You can avoid it with us!.

Our solution
All our experience in dealing with the hazard potential of acids in glass bottles has been incorporated in the specifications of the new “Safebreak” bottle, the safest safety bottle!
“Safebreak” is a glass bottle coated with polyethylene. Should e.g. the bottle fall and break, the liquid and glass splinters are reliably retained within the polyethylene coating.
