Yeah, 110lbs should last you and your family a couple of life times.

How dangerous is it to store, btw?
Where do your store yours?
How much do you worry about the whole thing exploding?

I got my ½ a pound sitting in the cupboard here, wrapped in some plastic.
I sometimes think I'm putting myself at risk...

I tried setting a small flake of it on fire, just to see how explosive this stuff is.
But it never caught fire.
Then I read later that it exploses when coming in contact with certain substances, as well as when its impacted/crushed.

Not sure how much I ought to worry about it.

I'm not worried at all. It is explosive only with percussion. And I keep it dry and cool. I had some mailed to me over 4 years ago that was still good.

A friend told me that he simply ordered it in his local pharmacy.

I read as well that you can order it at Carl Roth

Yes, but how much of a percussion?
Is that why it comes in a metal container?

I also wonder how much of an explosion we would be seeing, if the thing exploded.

The safety data sheets you can read on sodium chlorite don't go in to that at all.

My first two orders from different vendors came in cardboard boxes, and even with the "percussive" aspects of te US mail system,(one was 20 lbs, one was 1 lb)had no problem. I purchased the last from a chemical company - it came in a metal barrel. Was it necessary? Was it a function of the goob trying to control? I don't Know. I have had no problem with any of it.

I've only seen one incident of some sort of "explosive" situation - and it was making CDS and involved moving all the parts of the process outside when there was lots of gas left to be used. I've written about that before on tis forum. Personally, I would NOT be concerned.

Thank you, Pam.

I guess I was worrying too much about it.

Just read about your problem getting Sodium Chlorite. We have the same problem in the UK - the government doesn't allow individuals to buy it. I got 2lbs from Tuluce Chemicals in Turkey (They were on ebay). You can contact Rifat Tuluce at rifattuluce@hotmail.com
who may be able to arrange payment methods. This has to be sent by surface mail and it took 7 weeks for mine to arrive. They also state "sample" for the benefit of Customs. Postage cost more than the product!

I would have been able to buy Sodium Chlorite from a laboratory chemicals supplier, but this was going to be very much more expensive as there are minimum order values.

I hope this help others in Europe

Well, your question was answered here.
I can confirm the information. Carl Roth is a serious supplier.
This is stated in the german forum MMS Selbsthilfe-Forum ,
which is quite helpful if you know the german language.
