Hi to all,

I went to my local supermarket to look at pool ingredients for making MMS2, the label on the container had nothing on there about percentages, for eg, 65%, 75%, 80% etc, etc, it only had the following info...

Pool Chlorine, 700g/kg available Chlorine (CL) present as Calcium Hypochlorite

Is this ok to buy for making MMS2 ?

Thanks,
romas

Yes. Go for it. As long as it's calcium hypochlorite, you've got it. A kilogram is 1000 grams, and it looks like what you have here is a 70%. You might look to see what else is on the label. Usually some forms of sodium. As JH says, the skin is the body's biggest organ, they are not going to put anything into pool shock that will hurt someone in a swimming pool.

Actually I also just bought some granular chlorine shock, I'm hesitant to use as of yet because it says: Calcium Hypochlorite...57.8% then OTHER INGREDIENTS....42.2% Doesn't really say what the other ingredient is, assuming its just some sodium filler. I'd like to be sure about it before I do anything though.

No don't use this one, the 70% you described in your first post is the one to use.

Best wishes

Hi Pam,

Thanks for getting back, these ingredients: Pool Chlorine, 700g/kg available Chlorine (CL) present as Calcium Hypochlorite
was the only description i could see on the label.

I also noticed some other brands had the same incredients above, however, the only difference was instead of saying... 700g/kg available Chlorine (CL)... it had, 600g/kg or 500g/kg etc.

You said... "and it looks like what you have here is a 70%" so does 600g/kg and 500g/kg represent 60% and 50% etc?

Kind regards

They're using calcium hypochlorite as synonymous with chlorine - so yes, if that's the case, then the 500 would be 50% and 600 would be 60%.
