But I have a gold crown and the solution is not supposed to come into contact with metal. What do you guys think? Brush with it, or no? Thanks!

Gold is VERY stable, and I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

But I haven't "officially" 'heard' about that.
Maybe no one really knows.
