Hi,

I have a water dispenser and I am adding unactivated MMS to the water 2 - 3 drops per liter plus 5 ml CDS (3000 ppm) per liter, but the internal container is stainless, and I am worried that it may be corrosive,

Is unactivated MMS and CDS in after diluting them still corrosive?

What harm can happen if it is and you drink the water?

Thanks in advance for your help

CDS should not be a problem, but MMS might be as it is very alkaline. However, looking at a stainless steel chemical compatible chart, sodium chlorite was rated "A" (excellent, no effect), so it may not be a problem at all. The chart did not say if sodium chlorite was in dry form or wet, as we use it.

Thanks for your response,

I have tested the water ph and after adding 2 drops of MMS + 5 ml of CDS per liter the ph is anywhere from 6 - 7, so not very alkaline

I know MMS corrodes stainless at 20%+, My question is does it corrode at a much lower concentration like the one I am using?

Please note that this is intended to be used long term so I need to make sure it's safe

yes. clo2 dissolves metal (oxidizes metal to a soluble salt). That's why all the MMS literature says 'no metal'!

CLO2 and NaCLo2 may effect stainless steel differently. Best to look up chlorine dioxide and sodium chlorite water solutions online for compatibility.
