the ingredients listed on the bags of calcium hypochlorite (MMS2) sold in pool supply stores say 65% calcium hypochlorite and 45% "other" ingredients. what are those "other ingredients" ? Should I buy 100% pure calcium hypochlorite? and where can I buy it? thanks Veronica

Look in your copy of Jim Humble's latest book, MMS Health Recovery Guidebook, on pages 274-275 and you will find this (and more):

"MMS2, calcium hypochlorite, is sometimes known as Pool Shock. It is sold in pool stores and grocery stores throughout the world. As long as it is for swimming pools, manufacturers cannot put bad things in the pools that would hurt swimmers, and thus cannot put harmful things in the calcium hypochlorite. The package will say it contains somewhere from 45% to 85% available chlorine. This is not true. As long as you have calcium hypochlorite (not sodium hypochlorite, which does produce chlorine) there is no available chlorine. When calcium hypochlorite is dissolved in water it turns into hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and there is no chlorine available."

As you can see, 65% is fine. If you find 100% calcium hypochlorite, please let us know! :silly:

Thanks for your reply.
BUT .... my question was not answered.
On the package of pool shock what does "45% "other" ingredients mean"? what are those "other ingredients" ?
Thanks!

inert ingredients, stuff that makes it hold shape, but it lacks a usual or anticipated chemical or biological action.

I buy Leslie's Powder Power Plus, it is 73% calcium hypochlorite.

That's it, been taking it for years, off and on depending on what's going on with me. Buy size zero capsules and fill 1/2. Jim says start even smaller dose, but I didn't, and I give the 1/2 capsule to friends when they say they are coming down with a cold or flu... guardia, intestional stuff, works immediately. I take with distilled water or add Martinellis apple juice to it (no citric acid in Martinelli's).
I've heard people say that you can add distilled water to the grains and use it topically... but I use the MMS1 plus HCl for topical. I'm not afraid of trying it, it's just that it isn't as handy as the eye droppers I already have with MMS1 and HCl. It burns off scars without pain, moles, warts, age spots.... I could go on and on....
Amazing stuff.
Used to be able to buy one envelope for $6. now I see you have to buy a 6 pack box, it'll last forever !!

Jim answered the question:

"...manufacturers cannot put bad things in the pools that would hurt swimmers, and thus cannot put harmful things in the calcium hypochlorite."
