A few days ago, I sprained my ankle and I thickly put on DMSO gel with aloe vera (70/30) for three days. The ankle injury abated a couple of days later but the skin turned bright red and leathery and has not improved very much. It almost seems as though some blood vessels have broken. Is that possible?

What is even more worrisome is that I had a bumped my lower leg on a piece of furniture, which led to a bit of broken skin and began to turn blue. So I smeared some DMSO gel on that also, and that area, too, has an angry red bump and does not seem to be healing.

None of this hurts or burns or itches and my ankle is fine.

I've attached a picture and hope I did not do any permanent damage. And is it ok to use the gel?

That's normal for an excessive application. For an area the size in the photo,an application the size of a pencil eraser, rubbed in, is all that's req'd to relieve the swelling. Continue with the aloe , and it will be gone in a week.
