Mother just diagnosed with mesothelioma...trying to learn and convince was created by Deitch
Im still very new to all of this information and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about it to convince my mother Kathy (53yrs old) not to go with the standard orthodox treatment. My family is very close and openly talk about things but for some reason as soon as I bring it up to her she quickly shuts the conversation down. I wish more than anything I could figure out what to say to open her mind a little bit to other possibilities other than chemotherapy??... I dont think we have much time at all. She's been having symptoms since april and in last few weeks I've noticed a dramatic difference...its all happening so fast and I really dont know where to turn... any advice would help.... thanks

Deitch, I'm so sorry that your mom is dealing with this issue. As much as I would love to be able to give you the exact choice of words that would help her to see the world through your eyes - I can't - if she's like many in the US, they've been well trained to believe that the medical profession has the only answer and they can give the responsibility for their body to their doc - and if it doesn't work, it must be God's decision - and that kind of mind set is not easy to work with - it means having to change their whole basis for reality - and that's really scary, particularly when they're going through a medical crisis.
All you can do is offer her love, support, and allow her to make her own decisions. If she has the information and makes a decision different than the one you would - as painful as that might be, it's still her decision.
Hugz.

Thank you for taking the time to get back to me. If i were to convince her to look into an alternative treatment, do you think there is any chance for this type of illness? The prognosis doesn't look good at all and I don't think there's much time. I really don't know what the best thing for her is...I guess im reaching. If u have any suggestions I would love to look lookh know who i should talk to??
