Minimum levels of Arsenic, Lead and Mercury in Sodium Chlorite 80% was created by Santosh_108
Hi,
Please can you tell me firstly, what the accepted minimum levels (if any) of the above are in SC 80% batches for use in making MMS currently. My batch has Arsenic at <3ppm, Lead at <1ppm and Mercury at <0.1ppm.
Is this useable or shall I return it? It was an inexpensive purchase so I bought a kg. Perhaps I need to think about spending a lot more to be safe.
Secondly what is the usual lifespan on it? Mine has an expiry date of 07072026- less than a year.
Thank you

Transfer it to a airtight glass container (not a metal lid) and the SC will last up to 20 years and more. Store in a cool dark place. Store in the freezer and it will keep forever.Hi,

If you make CDS, those impurities in the SC flakes should not be in CDS. If you use 4% HCL to activate the SCS, there will be some HCL in the CDS. If instead you use 50% citric acid activator, there won't be any CA in the CDS.

So, you have a kg of 80% sodium chlorite flakes and you will be making SCS from it.Hi,

Thanks.
To be clear activating 80% SC with some impurities with 4% HCl to make Chlorine Dioxide Solution (CDS) rids it of its impurities but leaves some HCL in in the CDS. Is this bad? And is it better to use 50% CA to make CDS that will leave no CA in the CDS and take care of the impurities in the original SC flakes at the same time? I have bought 2.5 L of 37% HCl, but I can take it back.
Can you tell me how to make 50% CA in case I decide this is a better route?
Again thank you.

If you want to make MMS1 at some point, keep the hcl. Can't be that expensive.
If you want to make CDS in addition to MMS1 buy some citric acid.
To make 50% citric acid you just measure according to weight the same amount of citric acid and water and mix.
So say 200 grams citric acid and 200 grams of distilled water.
