"Because DMSO had the fortune to be discovered at a time when there was still an unbridled enthusiasm within the scientific community to investigate an unorthodox idea (something which has largely disappeared now, because career scientists are so dependent upon not rocking the boat to ensure a lifetime supply of research grants) and it fell into the right people’s laps (exceptionally talented, ethical and driven physicians who’d earned the support of their superiors), the scientific community rallied behind it and published thousands of papers on DMSO.
Nonetheless, the FDA was still able to squelch it, and all of the research behind it (along with all the animals that were sacrificed to attain it) have been consigned to the dustbins of history.
In the case of DMSO, this is particularly tragic because of how much suffering (and economic cost) many of the disorders discussed here create, and the fact that decades of research and billions of research dollars have brought us no closer to solving them.
I thus made the decision to present this in a neutral tone, and do my best to accurately present that science behind DMSO (which has required hundreds of hours of work) so I could give DMSO the best chance of flourishing now and helping those it could help —but in truth—words cannot begin to express my disdain over how DMSO was treated, or the human cost of the callous bureaucratic dictates which have kept it from being adopted within the medical system (a sentiment I believe will be shared by many of you)." I am not sure if I got the link from the Midwestern Doctor or from some other source but there is the PDF Book titled: "The DMSO Handbook for Doctors"
There are different cases described in it collected by the author of the book.

Stevie, for topical applications of DMSO, you have to dilute it with distilled water. We usually dilute DMSO to 70% and sometimes to 50%. If you use distilled water, your DMSO purity will remain 99.99%.Could you tell me please: why? when I use DMSO my skin burns awfully, too much. And itches afterwards, too long. I choose a purity of 99.99%
I keep 70% diluted DMSO in a spray bottle.
I also drink 2.5ml of DMSO first thing in the morning every day. That is full-strength (undiluted) DMSO in 60ml of water.
See attached PDF file.

Generally you don't use DMSO at full strength for extended periods.
It is diluted with distilled water to the required strength.

More is Not Always Better
Published on: June 9, 2026
In my books, there are times when one might need to take larger doses of MMS/CD. In Protocol 2000, for example you’ll find maximum dosage amounts. Some might take this to mean the more MMS one takes the better. But this is NOT necessarily so! More is not necessarily better, you need to listen to …
