is there a way of testing flakes to make sure they are genuine, as i have got some but want to be sure thay are ok before i make my own mms

I think you will have to trust your source. Make some MMS, activate it and see if it looks and smells like what you have used in the past. Measure the ppm of a 3 drop dose of MMS1; it should measure between 25 and 50 ppm CLO2.
