I am a little confused reading the instructions on how to mix HCL. It appears that it is a 4 parts distilled water to 1 part HCL regardless of the strength HCL that you have as long as they are equal amounts.

For example I want to dilute 100ml of 31.45% HCL I would do the following...
1. Pour 100ml HCL in a clean glass container.
2. Pour 400ml distilled water in same container.

I would then have an available 500ml of HCL Activator available to bottle.

I would like a response from a certified Bishop as I will be dispensing this sacrament to church guest.
ASAP

Thanks

Hi Max. I anticipated your question, so last night I posted an Open Office Calc (spreadsheet) file that should answer your HCL dilution question. :P

Let me know if you find it useful. Thanks!

The openoffice.org spreadsheet worked great after I downloaded the correct software... Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks Max. I don't have MS Office to check if the OO ods file would work with Excel.

Glad it worked for you. One feature I added was the amount of water needed to mix with the stock HCl solution. Online calculators don't seem to mention that you need to subtract the stock solution volume from the dilute solution total which then is the amount of water needed.

Hello RevPaul and good to see you on the G2C forum.

I agree that 4% HCL should be the acid activator of choice especially if making CDH.

Scott discovered that using 2% HCL to make CDH increased the fridge life from 2 weeks (4% HCL) to 2 months. Using 5% HCL will result in a very short fridge life for CDH.

The difference going from 4% to 5% looks like a 1% increase, but it is actually a 25% increase! A calculator with a percent % key will show you that 4 + 25 (%) = 5.

I also like endmemo.com and that website is linked from within the dilution calculator spreadsheet linked above.
