hi ev 1
i have just got 1lb sc flakes and am completely useless at maths so dont get any of the weights and so on, but what i would like to know is-
how can i test a few flakes in distilled water to determine if they are genuine, before i go onto make a batch please as i have had bad products in the past and thats why i got the flakes to make my own.
also how can i tell if 50% citric acid is real
thanks
jeff

Jeff, if you make a batch according to the recipe shown in this short video, the 22.4% SC solution should look similar to what you will see in the photos in the video.
You will need a gram scale to weigh both the SC flakes and distilled water.
To make 50% citric acid solution from citric acid powder, mix equal weights of powder and distilled water in any total quantity you want. To match up with the 450ml of SC solution, weigh 225mg of both powder and distilled water.
When both solutions are done, put 3 drops of each in a small glass and look at the color which should be yellow or brown. Also smell if there is chlorine dioxide gas. If you mix 1ml of each the color should be brown and emit lots of chlorine dioxide gas.
Let us know the results.
Thanks.

If you're speaking of the video in JB's post, assuming you're on a computer, not on a cell phone, (I don't know if the YTs work on a cell phone link) - you can click on the YouTube image in JB's post, (there should be a right facing triangle for the "go" button)
