is sodium chlorite acceptable alternative to calcium hypochlorite?

It looks the same and smells the same, but is it a okay to take it? It says it is 63%, it's pool shock.

I cannot find calcium hypochlorite in Puerto Vallarta. And my calcium hypochlorite was stolen by TSA agents...

BTW, did you try to carry on the MMS2 or was it in your checked luggage?

Read the label again I bet it's actually sodium hypochlorite not sodium chlorite . And NO it is not the right chemical and definitely should not be used!!!

It was in my carry on. They said it would be confiscated in my checked as it was a hazardous material (if caught). It was just a random search of my carry on.

The label actually says in spanish "sal clorada"...salt chlorox, I believe.

I've decided to use the sal clorada as a bug and mold repellent....I'm putting a small dish of it out when I leave town, bet no critters come to visit, it smells much worse than the calcium hypochlorite!

I found where to buy "hypochlorito de calcio" and bought the smallest container for $45. USD, 10 pounds. At Aquaviva Pools, which is directly across the highway from Krystal Hotels. Small pool store on the side street, but easy to find.

You can also find it at a pool store in front of the Mismaloya-Boca bus stop off Badillo, where the buses park.
