I posted this info in another spot, but I think it's worth reposting.
I watched the recent great videos of Kerri Rivera showing how she makes "overnight" CDS and noticed that she did not mention the strength of HCL she uses. (If you read this, Kerri, please let us know!)
In a recent chat with the folks at wps4sale.com, I learned that when using the "overnight" method of making CDS we need to use 10% HCL rather than 4%. This was important information for me because I only have 4% HCL on hand!
Before I attended the March 2013 MMS Seminar where I learned "the old way" of making CDS (by heating the bottle and running the gas through a tube over into a receiver bottle, which I've gotten pretty good at!), my husband and I tried the "overnight" method of making CDS by using 50% citric acid. My husband was not careful to avoid the fumes generated through the activation process by providing enough ventilation and the use of a fan, so he ended up taking a strong hit of CDS gas in the lungs and nose.
He was worried that he had damaged his lungs, but there have been no problems from that. In fact, he reports that this may have "cauterized" the blood vessels that had been causing him frequent nose bleeds. NO MORE NOSE BLEEDS!! But we do not recommend making CDS without adequate ventilation and a fan. Be safe!
Another note, the wps4sale.com folks say that the higher the altitude, the stronger the CDS. We live at 6,000 ft here in Colorado, so that is a useful bit of information.
Thanks to all those of you who spend time helping keep us informed through this forum!
