I have stored in both glass and HDPE. I prefer glass, but that's my preference. I also like my glass to be darkened - for example, there are some wine bottles that you could store in that are dark. If it has a screw lid, be sure to put some plastic between the lid and the bottle. Most people store in clear glass bottles - I also like to keep a small container of CDS out of the big jar (but in the fridge) and work from that - that way I'm not opening the big jar often. (I call it my "working bottle or jar")

The best bottles I've found are the 1 litre wire hinge cap bottles. From Kerri Riviera's book she recommends them as well.

we use the 250/ml/cc dark brown HDPE bottles better for shipping and no problems with storage. If you have ever smashed a glass bottle of DMSO on your floor you will understand! This is my preference.
