As a smoker, I use MMS to "clear the air" but it also works well during flu season. Here's what I do:

Items needed:
(1) piece of string (or one per fan blade)
(1) plastic bottle cap (ONLY one, no matter how many balls you're preparing)
(1) cotton ball (or one per fan blade)
MMS

Instructions for smoky smell
Tie a string to your cotton ball
Put 6 drops of MMS and 6 drops of citric acid solution in the bottle cap and allow to develop (about 30 seconds)
Stick the cotton ball into the bottle cap to soak up all of the solution.
Walk around the area slowly swinging the string in circles above your head.

Alternatively, you can tape the cotton ball to something like a fly swatter and walk about, waving it above your head. I've used a large bubble wand (for waving around making big bubbles) and taped the cotton ball to it with a bandaid, as the bandaid was the only tape I had that would stay stuck but the string works better.

If you want to do your car, put down the sun visor and tie the string around it so that the ball hangs freely, just below it. Then simply roll up the windows and close the door.

CEILING FAN INSTRUCTIONS

For a more "heavy duty" cleansing, you can use several strings taped to the ends the fan blades of a ceiling fan so that you can leave the room while it's getting its "shot". If your fan has an even number of blades, you can just use two on opposite fan blades, but if you have a 5 or 7 blade fan, you can just use 3 drop solutions on each cotton ball and put one on each blade.

You want to repeat the instructions for each ball you are using, start to finish. If you're swinging one ball above your head while walking through the space, fine, but don't try to do more than 1 at a time if you're using your ceiling fan. In other words, If you're using 2 or 5 balls, DO NOT make a 12 or 30 drop batch of MMS, all at once. Prepare the balls, one at a time, in a separate space and tie on each one before you prepare the next one and leave the fan off until you have them all up. Then turn the fan on low and leave the room.

Prepare your strings first and you'll want your ceiling fan blades clean (at least on the top of the ends) or the tape won't stick. Put a knot in the end of the string opposite the end you're going to tie the cotton ball to, and place it on top of the end of the fan blade and tape across the string below the knot. Let the strings just hang over the ends of the fan blades and tie the cotton balls to them, as you prepare each one. Once you get them all tied on, turn the fan on low and leave the room.

You can also put a fan in one window, aiming inward, and close all of the other windows and doors to create circulation and a little bit of positive pressure that will force the MMS gas into small spaces and you can actually get a pretty good idea of how contaminated a space is by how strong the chlorine smell is after a half hour. The less chlorine odor you smell after a half hour, depending on the size of the space, then the "busier" the MMS is - i.e. the more "gunk" there is for it to "eat" and the more of it gets spent, so you'll want to repeat the process until you have a good chlorine odor at the half hour mark. At which point, you want to leave it another half hour and then you can either just leave it and let it die off on its own or turn the fan around and open the other windows and doors and air out the space.

You can also put items into a trash bag, tape a short string to the top of the bag, tie on a cotton ball holding it away from the items, and then blow up the bag or use the blower end of the vacuum cleaner to fill it with air and then tie it off so that it stays inflated and leave it about an hour. If you don't want to do an entire space, otherwise you could just put all of the items you want to decontaminate in the space you're cleansing and proceed with the ceiling fan method. You would definitely want the fan blowing inward from one window with all the other windows closed if you're doing things like pillows or stuffed animals or want to give the inner parts of upholstered furniture a shot of ClO2. And you'd probably want to do the entire process at least twice.

Super easy and super effective. And you can even get giant sized "banana bags" on Amazon. They have mattress sizes and sofa sizes - they're like giant, heavy-duty trash bags.

Also, if I'm just clearing the air, swinging a cotton ball around, over my head, I just walk around for a few minutes and then drop the string and cotton ball into my outdoor, plastic garbage can and put the lid on. My garbage can always smells fresh, LOL!

Otherwise, you can either drop it in the trash or, if you're afraid to do that, you can just rinse it out with water and then drop it in the trash.
