I was born in 1960 in Natal / RN Brazil. I always tried to lead a healthy life (I was rowing athlete) without using alcohol, tobacco and drugs and other harmful substances. My diet has been since childhood without fat, with plenty of vegetables, but with white rice (not full) and also made use of refined sugar. By the eighties I read a book very striking to me called SUGAR BLUE of author William Dufty changed my life in which she speaks literally sugar is more covert drug that dissolves the teeth and bones of an entire civilization, our urban tribes, almost all, forget what is honey, fructose or corn syrup.
Around 2003 I came up with a spot on the sole of my right foot that bothered him a bit and soon began to swell (I was just standing still after walking my foot is like a cake) I even thought that was a mild ankle sprain but it was not soon after the Autumn swelled too. Then as I had no health insurance went to the SUS (Unified Health Service) I spent a a whole day in line to be treated by a doctor who looked at me and told me that the symptom of swollen feet could mean various diseases such such as heart problems (my whole family have heart problems), diabetes and other diseases.
