I was making CDS using a plastic squeeze type bottle (normally used as container for mustard / ketchup for making hot dog) as the MMS mixing bottle.
I was using other bottles previously but found that the some Chlorine Dioxide gas usually escaped from the bottles (where MMS1 was mixed) and filled my surrounding with pretty strong Chlorine Dioxide smell. As such this time I tried using the squeeze bottle trying to keep everything air tight at the gas generation end.
I did not keep the bottle with distilled water air tight. The bottle is with open lid.
Everything was going well and the Chlorine Dioxide gas did not escape this time and I got stronger CDS.
After everything was done, I squeezed out the remainder of the depleted MMS1 mixture and when the bottle was without any MMS1 mixture liquid, I tried to unscrew the cap of the bottle and that was when the explosion happened. I think maybe this is because the bottle was still filled with Chlorine dioxide gas inside and once I unscrewed, oxygen got in and caused the explosion. Basically the cap explored into pieces with quite a big bang. Luckily I was not hurt, only my ear was ringing for quite sometime after that.
I just wonder is it that the explosion can only happen when there is only chlorine dioxide gas existed and mixed with oxygen or that a tightly lid bottle filled with activated MMS1 liquid (which will generate Chlorine dioxide gas and filled the remainder space of the bottle) can also explore when being opened.
My experience is that tightly lid bottle filled with activated MMS1 never explored, only yellow chlorine dioxide gas will outburst from the opening when the bottle is opened.
I need some advises and sharing from others regarding under what conditions can cause explosion.
Can tightly lid bottle of ACTIVATED MMS1 be transported? Would it explored?
