MMS1 or Activated MMS: chlorine dioxide (ClO2)
Shelf Life of MMS

Just two questions.
- What is the shelf life of MMS, not mixed, but the solution plus the activator separately like the product in the link below. I'm a prepper and so am thinking of buying quite a bit but if it has a limited shelf life then there is no point.

- Also I heard that about 7 people have died from taking MMS in that past, is that true and if so, why did they die? Was it an overdose or what?
Thanks

I can’t imagine that anyone would die from MMS as long as it is activated and taken in the proper dosage. However, I have heard that some people thought it was the same as bleach and had serious recactions from taking that.

In a prepper situation, this is not ideal either, I'd think. The flakes won't last forever.
I have had flakes in an air-sealed container, sitting in a dark cupboard at room temperature. It sat there for about 3 years. The MMS solution I made from these flakes came up very low in potency; virtually useless. It would barely activate when adding it to acid.
Since then, when I have bought sodium chlorite flakes, I have kept them in my freezer. The last badge is about 5 years old (been in the freezer all these years), and the MMS solution I make from these flakes seems every bit as potent as when the flakes were new was new.
But if you want to use it in a prepper situation, I guess having it in a frezzer is out of the question.
Just do your best to keep it as cold as possibly. (and keep out of light, too, obviously)

I do a lot of CLO2 testing and have found that after about 18 months, sodium chlorite solution begins to lose potency. HCL lasts about 3 years.
For long term storage, buy 80% sodium chlorite flakes and citric acid crystals. SC is supposed to last 20 years and I have used 9 year old CA to make CDS at the same CLO2 ppm as using fresh CA. Store both in glass bottles with plastic lids such as Mason jars and the new Ball Leak-Proof black plastic lids. Keep cool and dark.

Looks like I will have to go down the path of making my own rather than store bought if I want to keep it long term.

- The Hydrochloric Acid I can get is 32%, is that good enough?
- I can get Hydrochloric Acid " CP grade " and " AR grade ", which is better?
- Is this the Citric Acid that I'm looking for, or would 6% Citric Acid work?
- Which is better as an activator, Hydrochloric Acid or Citric Acid?
- For long term storage would Citric Acid store longer than Hydrochloric Acid?
Also is my calculation below correct for making 4% HCl from 100 ml 32% HCl.
100 ml 32% HCl
+
7 x 100 ml distilled water
= 800 ml 4% HCl
Any help is appreciated.
