There is a research abstract where in a study done in Russia they theorize that lipid peroxidation (LPO) products might be one cause of cataracts or to state it as they say it, it might induce cataracts. Or the peroxide damage of the lens fiber membranes may be the initiatory cause of cataract development. (Might be, but there is no proof yet.)
They didn't mention where the peroxide would come from and get into the eyes, but of course those things are possible. You could look for me to be one of the last people to say that is not a cause for cataracts. However, it will probably be years of research before we can say yes or no to that theory of cataracts. But before we jump on the idea that because peroxides are oxidizers and MMS is an oxidizer that MMS might cause cataracts there are a few important facts to consider.
First fact is the MMS (chlorine dioxide) has an oxidation potential that is chemical-wise far, far below peroxide. The oxidation potential of MMS being .95 volts and the oxidation potential of peroxides about 1.80 volts. Chemical-wise this is a huge difference and there can be hundreds if not thousands of chemical actions that peroxide can cause that MMS cannot cause.
Second fact is while peroxide can do damage in the eyes and in any other place in the body that it is allowed to be for any length of time, MMS does not do damage in the same places in the same amount of time. For example at 6 ppm to 12 ppm of chlorine dioxide at which thousands have now used MMS in their eyes no one has reported damage or cataracts. But the clincher is in the fact that a number of people have reported that their cataracts have disappeared when using MMS in their eyes (in the correct amount).
To say one expects damage from MMS is like saying because you can kill an elephant with an elephant gun one must then stop using a BB guns when around elephants because BB guns may hurt the elephants.
So because someone in a research facility on the other side of the world has said something about cataracts might possibly be caused by one chemical. This chemical is well known that it can do damage in the human body. This is definitely not a reason to assume that another chemical much milder might also do damage. This is especially true when over a period of 18 years and millions using MMS there has never been a report of any kind of damage when MMS was used as directed in my books. If there had been one report of cataracts being caused after a few days of using MMS in the eyes that would be enough for us to investigate the happening. But no such report so far.
So if we let something like this stop us, then with all the research around the world going on we would probably never get started again. So keep a sharp eye out for problems, but let’s be sure we have proper evidence before we start to worry. Or before we worry others about it.
