CDS "Shot Glass Method" & Variations - HAD ANY EXPLOSIONS?

OK, apparently there are some differences of opinion regarding the Shot Glass Method of making CDS.

What I'd really like to know from anyone who's experimented with this is:

Have you experienced your large containment vessel (sealed glass OUTER jar, etc.) EXPLODING from the pressure of the chlorine dioxide gas while making the CDS this way?

My operating theory at this point is that the water or other liquid that is absorbing the ClO₂ acts as a pressure release valve that helps prevent the pressure building to the point where the outer vessel explodes. Possibly the pressure, as it increases, causes the gas to dissolve into the solution more efficiently.

IS THIS METHOD SAFE? In my opinion, this is important as this is a process that many people can do at home, and one that may eliminate the CDS from absorbing toxins from plastics.

I'd appreciate responses from anyone with experience with this.

I did several batches and had no problem, Bruce. I can go back to my post and pull the measurements and drops, if you would like. I played around with pint and quart jars. Megg has been doing it for over a week with quart jars and 2 cups of distilled water with no problems.

It is exactly what happen I did with 100 drops of both liquids and nothing happen no pressure at all.

I just started the shot glass method and nothing exploded. The MMS and CA drops inside the "shot glass" got totally clear at the end of 14 hours.

I placed the tightly sealed glass jar (plastic lid) with 2 cups of distilled water and the floating little glass jar containing the MMS and CA in a kitchen cupboard.
The color of the finished CDS has been very close to the color of ready-to-drink MMS1 at the 3 drops dosage. I don't have testing strips yet.

Sounds right to me Evanir. Bruce, Charlotte has been doing a LOT of experimenting with the shot glass method lately - you could check with her. i've been in contact with her - no explosions

Bruce - I have been making CDS with Charlotte's recipe since she first posted it here - a couple of months now.

I have had zero issues or concerns with pressure build-up. My only problem using canning jars has been corrosion of the ring lid. I have since bought a liter glass jar with a glass lid and a rubber ring for the seal which is closed with a wire snap tensioner. We are doing 20 drops NaClO2 28% with 100 drops 10% CA. I have measured the 100 drops CA into a measure and now just fill the measure and drop it into the shot glass.

We then place the sealed jar into a plastic basin and flood the jar with hot water up to the seal level. This then takes 3-4 hours and the shot glass is clear. Removing the CDS to a glass bottle (500ml) we add another 500ml of clear spring water and refrigerate. This gives my wife and I two doses each over two days. Leaving it int he fridge for a week leaves is in the same condition as when made.

I have since changed my shot glass for a tiny liqueur glass with a stem and foot which "stands" in the reaction jar and is more stable. The neck cross section area is 1/4 of the shot glass and this results in a slower off-gas for some reason, and I now have to re-heat the jar twice over 8 hours to get a full reaction.

Overall we love this method as since starting taking CDS - no more funny guts or diarrhea at all.

I also made a small ebook which I attach here on the system we use with the original canning jar as most folks we supply have them. Also have had nil negative feedback from any of these people.

My only current concern is the rubber seal on my "sweetie jar" seems to be cracking and will eventually fail due to the corrosivenes of the ClO2. So I will stock up on spare seals, but have averted this degradation with using cling film in the lid seal between the rubber seal and the neck of the jar with good results.

Sky, I have found white plastic lids for canning jars made by Ball - they work for me.... There's no corrosion issues and no rubber ring to deal with - got them in the canning section of a local store - now's the time everyone is canning, so supplies are high.

Some mayo and peanut butter jar lids will fit canning jars.

I will visit our bulk canning supply depo this weekend to check this out.

My snap jar with cling wrap is still going well, but I would not mind going back to the canning jar as it has more volume with a bigger aperture.

To get back to Bruce's question and concern - I believe no pressure problems will be experienced should the dosage per batch made be kept below the 1 Lt and 3000ppm level for the shot glass method.

I will try a batch of 10 000+ppm in my canning jar this weekend just to check this out.


@Bruce - we should do a survey sometime to check the ratio of people using CDS and their preference methods of manufacture.
