Hi, I purchased sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid 1 year ago, and have kept the solutions in the original plastic bottle containers. Does anyone know if it is safe to use? I heard some people store these solutions long-term in opaque glass bottles.

Are you talking SCS (solution ~23%) "water purifier" and 4%/5% concentration HCl?
Mine come in dark colored plastic bottles. (usually)
My GUESS is that they should be fine.

It's the activated solution and CDS that are particularly susceptible to light degradation.

It wouldn't hurt to order some ClO2 Test Strips to test your activated solution.
I always do that with a new ordered batch just to make sure it is correct.

ok thanks I'll take a look at your website.
it's sodium chlorite 22.4%, and Hcl 4%.
they came in non-transparent white plastic containers and have been kept in the dark cupboard for a year.
I'll get the test strips too.
any other suggestions?
Thanks again!

I would think the solutions are still good.
But testing will verify.
If you get the 0 to 500 ppm test strips, when you activate 3 drops in 4 oz / 1/2 cup
STEAM distilled water, the color should be a light pastel green, showing about 10 or less
according to the color chart. (it's not hugely accurate, but close enough)
That's what my latest bottle of 100% activated 24,000 ppm CDS showed.
And from memory, that's what is has always been.
When I mix, I fill up the dark amber-brown dropper bottles from the bigger bottles
and store them (all) in the refrigerator.
Always label bottles well.
Note that it has been my experience that when activating with HCl, the color
ends up being (bright-dark) yellow, not "amber", unless you are activating 10+ drops,
then it starts going darker amber.
