I am a 76 year old big guy. Five days ago I felt an ear infection coming on in my left ear and did nothing about it for 3 days. Very bad decision! Ear infections rarely cure themselves. I wish I'd gotten after it the first day. That would have saved me considerable pain.
I make my own CDS (Chlorine Dioxide Solution: made by mixing 28% sodium chlorite solution with an equal amount of 50% citric acid solution which gives off ClO2 gas which is then infused into distilled water) using 500ml Erlenmeyer flasks. I make a pint (16oz) at a time of 24,000ppm and store it in 8oz PETE bottles in the refrigerator. The caps on the bottles are well tightened and the bottles are full for long time storage, more than 6 months. I test the concentration with ClO2 test strips.
After the third day the ear pain became severe and I was feeling overall much worse as my body tried to fight the infection. I didn't feel like doing much of anything except stay in bed. I decided to do something about it even though I didn't feel like doing anything but just lay there. I had used up all my stock of 24,000ppm of CDS but still had 8oz of 15,000ppm CDS left.
I started taking 3 size "0" capsules filled to the top (about 9-10 drops) with the 15,000ppm CDS. On day one I took 3 capsules at 6:00am, 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 12:00 noon, 4:00pm and 9:30pm plus I mixed up a solution of 2oz of distilled water with 16 drops of 3,000ppm CDS and 16 drops of 100% DMSO and filled my ear with it using an eye dropper at 8:00am.
At around 9:00pm the pain in my ear, after subsiding quite a bit, was beginning to get worse again so I put 32 drops of 3,000ppm CDS into the same 2oz I had used before (DMSO degrades the CDS over a few hours so I figured that the original amount of CDS in the bottle had degraded back to water) plus an additional 32 drops of DMSO and at 9:30pm I filled my ear with it.
I may have used two high of a concentration of both the CDS and DMSO because when I put it in my ear it stung a little, not much but I could feel the difference between that dose and the first one I took at 8:00am.
I left my ear full of it while lying on my right side and read my Kindle for about a half hour. I figured that should give the DMSO plenty of time to drive the CDS into the infection.
I then rolled over and the remaining CDS/DMSO solution drained out of my ear. I put on my CPAP breathing mask, (I have apnea) and went to sleep around midnight.
When I awoke about 3:00am my ear felt raw inside. Too high a concentration? Probably. I got up and rinsed the ear out with plain warm water with a clean eyedropper and went back to sleep. When I got up about 8:00am my ear no longer felt raw, I generally felt better overall and the pain in my ear was reduced but not gone.
That may seem like a lot of CDS but I'm a big guy - over 300# so I must take more than a normal weight person.
That morning, day two, I took 3 more capsules of 15,000ppm CDS at 8:15am, 10:30am, 12:00 noon, and 4:45pm. At this time all the pain in my ear was gone and I was able to insert my hearing aids again!
