hi all

i now have a 1ltr bottle of hydrochloride acid which is 36.2% and am now since my health probs useless at figures % etc. (i wasnt brilliant before lol) and will need very basic help to get this diluted to 4%. i now get headaches if concentrating fo rto long and my memory and concentration is not good, so you can see i am a mess. its so frustrating not being able to do what i could before.

i understand that it is heavy stuff and the label reco using gloves to handle it and to be careful of splashes especially to eyes!!!!.

would it be best to dilute the whole litre in one go and will it keep for a long time. or should i do a bit at a time.

myself am thinking that diluting the entire Litre n a glass jug is my solution.
However I am unable thus far to determine the % of my RECOCHEM Muriatic Acid. Says 18* Baume
However if 18* is 18% then 1L makes 4.5 L of 4% if the start point is 18% in 1L
How are you able to determine you have the percent you do have?

OK what I see is you have 36.2% HCl and we want 4%
easycalculation.com/chemistry/dilution-of-solutions.php
by entering 1 in 1st field, 36.2 in next field, 4% in 3rd, press calculate we get 9.05L of 4% HCl by adding the contents of your bottle to 8.05L of water.
Add acid to water NOT other way around.

If you wanted 1 liter of 4% HCL, which will last a long time for a single person, you could add 110ml of the 36.2% HCL to 890ml of distilled water. That's what I do with my 37% HCL.

Note that the 4% HCL will get quite warm when you add the 36.2% HCL to the water. That is normal.

thanks all for help

but just to recap to make sure i have it right before i start,

for1 ltr hcl 36.2% i would add the acid to 8.05ltr distilled water(does it have to be distilled water) or

i can make a litre at a time by adding 110ml of acid to 890ml water

hi all

disaster.... got the right dis water and hcl for litre, but fumes got me before i could get mms in can i put it in now or should i get rid and start again

I think you are saying the fumes from the 36.2% HCL were too much for you. I know what you mean and I do the HCL diluting outside and make sure the wind is blowing the fumes away from me. The fumes are very strong.

Once you have 1 liter of 4% HCL, you would then make One Bottle CDH by doing the following:

1. Put 220ml of water* in a glass bottle** of about 300ml size
2. Add 10ml of unactivated MMS to the bottle (22.4% sodium chlorite)
3. Add 10ml of 4% HCL to the bottle and immediately cap and shake the bottle of solution to mix well.
4. Put the bottle of solution in a dark, room temperature place for 12+ hours
5. You should now have a bottle of CDH with a nice yellow color
6. Store the CDH in a fridge if possible
7. Start hourly dosing at maybe 1ml per hour and work your way up

Let us know how it goes.

*(distilled water is best)
**(Schweppes bottles work very well and their cap seals well)
