What if mms isn't refrigerated, how long will it last?

Is there a way to know it has gone bad?

MMS works fine if not refrigerated - you need to keep it from UV light and well capped - I've had some for 5 years and it didn't go bad - the citric acid needed to be replaced but the 28% sodium chlorite (MMS) did not. I've seen a 2 year lifespan given to citric acid.

That's great news Pam, thanks!

Funny, I've think I've discovered why you use distilled water....as I used tap water once and the sodium chlorite would not dissollve, so I heated it, still it seperated into powder at the bottom of the jar, and never smelled right. So, I am guessing that the minerals in the water bonded to the chlorite. One wasted batch! Buying distilled water isn't possible here, Zimbabwe, but most places have clear soft water from the lake.

maybe it happened because you used regular water to mix? or had that been sitting around in the heat for a while?

inactivated MMS in a bottle in the dark, last seven years according to Jim Humble.
MMS works in any water including filthy jungle water also according to Jim.
So...
maybe directions fr making MMS need to be reviewed.
MMS add warm water approx 145F to powder, stir till disolved. After 24 hours pour of skum at top and remove sediment at bottom is what I recall Jims process to be.

i have jims book and read that about mms lasting years if not activated. i am now looking around for a supplier in theuk of hci 4%.

I poured off the water out of the mixture that didn't dissolve the mms, left with sludge of mms, then I came back to the lake area where the water is really soft, the mms had hardened up solid, I put new soft water into the bottle and it dissolved the mms within a minute, now I have clear pure mms.

really good news that it lasts for so long!

I can understand how you can use puddle water! no big deal that it is dirty.

I'm glad you got yours to work - you REALLY should be testing it for the ppms to know what you have. Puddle water would, IMHO, be a really bad idea, because the MMS would work on killing the pathogens in the water, and not on the pathogens in you. (It is a water purifier, after all.)
