Hi Bird!
Little Fella eats grass hay. We live in the woods and so there is little to no grass to graze on. He gets a minor amount of grain this time of year, more in winter to help keep weight on. He does not get sweet feed! He is in a small herd of 3 geldings, and an assortment of barn cats. They all get along great. These horses have been together about 5 - 7 years now. I am sure he would be happier in grass to his knees but life is life! I love him dearly and we get along real well. I bought him when he was about 12 years old. He had come from an auction with some of this sarcoid stuff on him at the time. Spent 2 years boarded out till we could get our own barn up and running. He has been home for about 5 years. Other than the grass issue it is a good life for him as in the larger herd he was bottom of the pecking order. He still is but the other two are not aggressive so he is a happy camper. Plus, he has shelter in the bad weather where before if the weather was bad he still had to go outside. Little Fella chills easily and this always bothered me, but nothing I could do about it till we had our own barn built!
Yes, Fella seems happy but this past year he has lost some perkiness and that has me worried. I suspect it has a lot to do with the sarcoids as we have no way of knowing what is going on inside till it's to late.
Hope this answers all your questions!
Sincerely,
Denise

Okay, Try number 4? Will try without photos. Maybe then this will come through! :)
Progress report 7/18/12

Hello!
I figured it was time for an update and looking, hopefully, for some more helpful suggestions!

Progress Report:

Lil’ Fella is doing better but, and that’s a big but, still have major issues.

Problems:

1. The sarcoid tends to slough off where it is not real thick, and while still doing a 3 times a day spray, it will come back only to slough off again. It has a cycle regardless of what I do.
2. Also, some new lumps have appeared on his body, under the skin.
3. He is now reacting with discomfort to the spray. I have sprayed it on myself to test and found that on open heat rash and hay cuts it does sting and itch! Spray mix: 6 ml MMS, 2 ml DMSO, 15 ml CDS. I have added MMS2 but way to itchy! Therefore that has been removed.
4. Internally he is receiving 6 ml MMS, 15 ml CDS, ½ cup diatomaceous earth. 1/3 cup soaked flax seed, 2 tablespoons Brewers Yeast. ½ teaspoon garlic powder. He is fed these 3 times daily in grain. He now is not eating his grain except at night. Not with gusto. It has been very warm and humid here which affects us northerners  as well as animals so I chalked his lack of enthusiasm to that. This may not necessarily be a correct assumption.

Questions:

1. If I eliminate the DMSO (to cut back on the itching) will it still be as effective?
2. Any suggestions as to, once I get clear skin, why does it continue to cover over and slough off again? I live in Northern US and am rapidly running out of warm weather time to keep spraying such a large area down. I have only a few months left before it gets to cold to be doing this to him.
3. Feeding suggestions?

Will try and include new photos. The first three will show his worst. The last 3 will show his current condition. Am having trouble will try 4 photos instead of 6 photos. This is try number 4, I think. will try without photos.

Thank you everyone!
May God Bless You All!
Denise
