JB13 wrote: 99.9% is the purity, not the dilution. You can have 70/30 dilution and still have 99.9% pure DMSO. I don't think adding distilled water to reduce the concentration is considered an impurity.

Here is the label on one of my bottles of DMSO.

Hi, I will have to check on that.
The DMSO I have is from tao of herbs.
Here is a photo of it.

Thanks.

99% DMSO is not diluted.70% is diluted.both are DMSO.the dilution may be water, aloevera .stick with water dilution.I dilute to 50-60% DMSO.even 70% DMSO will burn skin.

99% DMSO is the concentration ratio .the rest is water of TOTAL SOLUTION in bottle.the DMSO is 100% DMSO.

In other words,in the bottle is 99.9% ( pure 100% DMSO,,) + 1% water.=100 % total solution in bottle.

I have a bottle of DMSO from WPS4SALE. It says 99.9% Pure. But the dilution is 70/30 (which is all they sell) even though it does not state so on the bottle. You should check with the company you bought the DMSO from.

That is not correct. The 0.1% part is something other than pure DMSO; impurities.

Distilled water is not an impurity. Adding DW will dilute the DMSO, not introduce impurities.

The following from hannelore.sander is correct:

Recall that MMS2 % of calcium hypochlorite commonly varies from ~58% to ~73%. The rest are impurities.

It can be confusing the way the labels read.

The biggest advantage IMO of the 70% is it won't freeze at 65F.
Some people also have skin irritation with the 99.99% (my wife is one), But it doesn't bother me at all.

As long as it is "MADE WITH" 99.9% or better (veterinary, or pharmasolvent), you will be okay. Make sure it says that though. Some of the 90% has acetone, and other solvents added.

The bottle should say something to the effect of "70% DMSO - 99.99% purity"

68%, 73%, 78% are the common full strenth HTH calcium hypochlorite distributed in bulk by the huge manufactures..
Mostly common salt, with calcium carbonate, and calcium chlorate make up the inerts.

I'm not sure but I think anything below the 68 has more additives, added by the brands and manufacturers themselves that buy the bulk., like dye or algaecide. I know Jim say 65% is okay, but I have never seen 65 in bulk barrels from a US source.

This is what I kind of gathered from sourcing it from different places.
