Yeah, when I read you were working with an oncologist, I was concerned, and was going to suggest you cut the cord.
Your marriage license is what connects the state to your case. nobody ever tells you til after the fact, that your children are the property and responsibility of the state, it is part of the contract! and as long as you follow state "approved" protocols, you are ok, but when you refuse, the red flags go up. hence CPS coming into play. you may have to consider going on the offense...a countersuit.
